  • Composition in the Landscape: Watercolor Landscapes in Plein Air and in Studio

    The Composition in the Landscape Course is a five day course aimed for those who are interested in painting the different environments around us. We will look at how to consider the landscape and ways to suggest depth, light and shadow, texture and color while painting on location as well as in the studio. The course will also look at the urban landscape and provide tools to depicting architecture in tandem with nature to create images that reflect the spaces in which we live. All levels are welcome, as the Instructor will review some basic techniques. About the Instructor: The Instructor, Jun-Pierre Shiozawa, currently lives in Nice, France and is excited for the opportunity to teach watercolor workshops at Hopkins Center for the Arts during his summer travels to the Twin Cities.     Learn to design and mosaic a sign or table with beautiful precut glass, and stencils (if needed), in 2 fun evenings. The signs vary in size, and popular ideas include Welcome, address, state of MN. The second night is grouting and learning more about mosaics and supplies. The table is 16” tall and the top is 16”x16” and is $65. Signs are $16+.

  • Seed Mosaics: A Great Minnesotan Tradition

    Every year the Minnesota State Fair showcases seed mosaics created by artists all over the state. In our seed mosaic workshop, students will continue this great tradition by creating their own works of seed art. Students will learn about the history and techniques of mosaic art and create a design of their own! Once completed, students will share their designs with classmates and share this Minnesotan art form with their families.
  • Watercolor Foundation: An Indepth Introduction

    This in depth course will take you from total beginner to feeling comfortable enough around the medium to create your own original pieces. Through exercises, demonstrations, and feedback sessions, you will be immersed in watercolor painting ideas that will help you develop your own painting approach. We will cover a range of topics from knowing your materials, to how to make washes and control the water on the page, to layering and glazing, negative space and masking to tone, color and composition. The different exercises will aid you as we build to painting on location and creating more dynamic art pieces. All levels welcome.
