Advanced Pottery

Adult / Art -
Adult Summer 2025

This course is for returning students who have previously taken ceramic courses. Students should have previous knowledge of the clay process, wheel throwing, and hand building. This course is an opportunity for students who are interested in setting individual goals. Goals can be based on creating artworks of self-proposed works with support from an instructor. Students will be encouraged to develop a plan for their time in the studio and will be supported in fulfilling that plan throughout the session. Additionally, and per the class’ progress, more advanced wheel and hand building demonstrations will be provided. Attendance is important. Students are expected to bring their own clay tools.

Matthew L Bowen

Matthew Bowen has been an art educator for more than 20 years. He has taught most grade levels from Kindergarten through high school. He attended the University of MN - Twin Cities where he completed his Master of Education in Curriculum Development in Visual Arts Education and received his BFA in Ceramics from the University of Eau Claire - WI. Matthew believes that most everyone can be an artist if they are willing to be a risk-taker, try new things, and dive into the creative process. Finding opportunities to create art with others in the community has been an amazing experience and he is excited to help others find joy and self-pride in the shared experiences of creating art through the wonderful opportunities at Hopkins Community Education.
