    Chess is a classic game that develops spatial thinking and strategies and builds focused concentration. Taught by a professional chess coach, the class is geared to all levels of chess players. Beginners learn basic game rules and opening tactic moves. Intermediate and advanced players learn sophisticated combinations and strategies and advanced opening moves.   • Camp Mathnasium: Jump Start into Multiplication (addition) Madness

    Join in on the math games mania! Just as in the English language there exist multiple phrases to express the same concept, a mathematical problem can be approached in numerous ways. Numerical fluency is having the mathematical understanding to find the most efficient way of expressing, and then solving, a problem. Each student will also be assessed to be able to receive personalized learning.
  • Intro to Java Coding

    Students will be introduced to object-oriented programming and elements of the Java language while learning to code their text-based RPG (Roleplaying Game). No programming experience is necessary, but familiarity with common tasks using a computer operating system (text-editing and understanding directory structures) and good keyboarding skills is required. Home Technical Requirements For All Classes: Visual Studio Code Computer: PC (Windows 7 or later) or Mac (OSX) with at least a 2GHz processor and 4GB of RAM Chromebooks, Tablets, and phones WILL NOT Work Internet: Broadband internet Webcam Microphone and Speakers Zoom Installed on Computer Students should be comfortable using a PC, mouse and keyboard.

    Science Explorers Myth Busting 101

    Mind-blowing myths or science facts? Join Science Explorers as we confirm or bust strange myths and wacky urban legends. We will ask the crazy questions, develop hypotheses, then we may smash it, crash it or launch it to determine if the myth is confirmed, plausible or busted. Note: M & M's (non-peanut variety) and Pop Rocks may be consumed. Hopkins Community Education is excited to provide a pick your price payment option for before and after school programming.   • Jr. Ninja Robotics

    In this camp, Ninjas will understand what a sequence is, be able to follow instructions to create a sequence, and describe the sequence to their peers. They'll learn how to break problems down into smaller parts, identify cause and effect, and understand simple loops. Finally, they'll explore the process of testing and debugging programs to ensure that their programs work as intended. This class will be held at Code Ninjas: 1581 Hwy 7, Hopkins, MN 55305
  • Multiplayer Minecraft: World Builder

    Unleash your creativity as you work collaboratively! Create a world with others in multiple unique, themed lands. Build different biomes or base a section on your favorite movie or video game! Students will get a copy of the world to continue development at home.   • Code Championship Tournament Series | Virtual Computer Coding Competition

    Build a computer bot to compete against other coders! Whether you're new or experienced, this is the perfect way to explore competitive coding. No previous coding experience is necessary. The Code Championship Series is four online tournaments hosted on Google Meet. If you have a modern browser, no download is required. Players must be able to navigate the internet. The Google Meet link will be emailed two days before the tournament. The link to the Google Meet event will be emailed two days before the tournament.
  • Solar Robots

    Students can stimulate their creativity by designing and building epic, solar-powered robots from easy-to-assemble parts. In addition, students will build solar powered cranes, lift bridges, and many other designs. Let your engineers explore the world of solar energy while learning how to problem solve and stretch the imagination.   • Hopkins Spring Open Chess Tournament 2025

    Chess Tournaments are a fun way for students of all ages to learn and improve their chess level! Chess tournaments are the next arena were young chess players can test their skills. They are not only competitions, but social events as well. Children will meet peers with a similar love for the game. This tournament is open to ALL K-12 Minnesota chess players. - Players grouped by rating/age/experience level - Pizza and beverages will be provided! - Every participant will receive a chess award Registration will be available at the door for $49.
