This hands-on course encourages creativity and problem-solving, and students will need to be comfortable using a laptop and mouse to design their robots.

  • A Day in Red Wing + Pottery Tour

    WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2025 (8AM - 5PM) 8 - 8:20 a.m. Registered travelers arrive to Eisenhower Community Center to load the bus 8:30 a.m. Bus leaves from the Eisenhower Community Center, 1001 Hwy. 7, Hopkins, MN. 10:00 a.m. Arrive at the Pottery Museum located in the Pottery Place Annex. This attraction features an interactive experience and the amazing 70-gallon pottery jug. A docent will talk about the project and introduce you to the exhibits on display. The historic pottery industry flourished in Red Wing, Minnesota from 1877 until 1967. The Red Wing Collectors Society Foundation is a national foundation dedicated to gathering historical information and items to preserve Red Wing and other American pottery and stoneware for future generations. Preserving the history of the clay industries in Red Wing, this museum has more than 6,000 historic pieces of stoneware, art pottery, dinnerware, and folk art to view and enjoy. 11:15 a.m. Leave the Pottery Museum. 11:30 a.m. Arrive at Liberty Restaurant located in the historic downtown building at 3rd & Plum owned by the Noreen Family since 1975. Menu: Meat-Loaf Luncheon with Cole Slaw, Mashed Potato & Gravy, Vegetable, Roll and Butter, Beverage, Petite Ice Cream Sundae. 1:00 p.m. Meet a local tour guide for a riding tour of historic Red Wing. Hear about the Pottery business, see impressive commercial and civic buildings, churches as well as residential neighborhoods Enjoy your journey through Red Wing’s architectural past and along the riverfront area now known as Levee Park. See the first downtown building, the Chicago-Milwaukee-St. Paul-Pacific Railroad Depot. 2:30 p.m. After the tour take some time to wander through beautiful downtown Red Wing. You can sample candy at Red Wing Confectionery, spend time at The Red Wing Shoe Store and see the “big boot.” Visit the Uffda Shop, unique galleries, specialty merchants, antique stores, boutiques and seize specialty items. 3:30 p.m. Leave Red Wing. 5:00 p.m. Estimated return time to Hopkins.     Advanced Adult Swim - Swim Lessons for Adult (18+) Women, provided in partnership with Minnesota Masters Swimming All instructors, volunteers and lifeguards will be women, and there will be privacy on the pool deck so that women can participate. This program is designed for adults who are comfortable in the water and have already mastered all the skills of Swimming ABC’s. Participants will be put into small group of 2-4 and will work with an instructor to refine skills including streamline push off, front crawl (“freestyle”) and backstroke.

    This class is designed for ADVANCED students with lots of prior experience in the pottery studio. This is a structured open studio to create your own body of work on the wheel or handbuilding incorporating your own personal aesthetic and style.     This is a class specifically designed for those that have lots of experience in clay and you will explore your own body of work. This is a structured, yet independent class. Bring a journal or your own ear buds with appropriate music to help you focus on your creations. We will have a critique at the end of the week. Please wear tennis shoes and wear your hair back.

    Express your passion for clay as you expand your pottery skills. Fine tune your throwing in areas of your choice while also engaging in artist critiques with peers to reflect and grow in your craft. This is an advanced class -- there will be no instruction in the basics of throwing and glazing. Prerequisite: You must be able to comfortably throw an 6-inch cylinder on the wheel.

Students will be encouraged to develop a plan for their time in the studio and will be supported in fulfilling that plan throughout the session. Additionally, and per the class’ progress, more advanced wheel and hand building demonstrations will be provided. Attendance is important. Students are expected to bring their own clay tools.
