  • Beginning & Continuing Pottery

    This course for beginning pottery students as well as students returning for more experience and time in the pottery studio. With the beginners, we’ll go through the basics of using clay, learn hand-building techniques and then learn to throw pieces on the pottery wheel. Next steps will include finishing up your works and trimming pieces as needed to get them ready for bisque firing, glazing and final firing. Instructor will also be available to assist and coach continuing pottery students. Class fee includes 25 lbs. of clay, glazes, and firing fee. Additional clay can be purchased from instructor. If you don't have the basic tools, rent them in class for $5.
  • Beginning Chess Camp

    Summer Chess Camp is an excellent opportunity to develop better Chess Skills in the summer! Our fun and educational chess summer camp is for beginner, intermediate, and advanced players. Children K-5 will learn opening and mid-game strategies and the all-important end-game. Students will also learn about the history of chess, and study famous players and matches. Players will become familiar with chess terminology and score-sheet notation. Students will play matches against each other, play against chess computers, and compete in a tournament on the final day. In addition to playing chess, campers will also play various other enjoyable board games, decide chess puzzles, and have sports activities at the playground. All campers will have chess awards.

    Drawing can be intimidating for beginners, but learning a few basic techniques can improve your skills and make drawing much more enjoyable. Utilizing the method outlined in "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain," this no-pressure group setting will present such techniques as portraits, still life, perspective, shading, and measuring.

    This introductory course to American Mah Jongg will teach you everything we’ve learned to love about the wonderful world of “MAHJ” - the snacks, the chat, and, of course the game! In this four-part series you will learn the basics, be able to ask questions, and get plenty of practice. Soon you will master this exciting and challenging game of skill, strategy and luck. Mah Jongg is an excellent way to bond with family and friends, create community, and keep you quick on your toes! No equipment needed, just come pull up a chair and join us!

    Come learn how to throw pottery on the wheel! You will learn techniques such as: throwing, trimming, creating your own personal style of textures and an intro to glazing. Dress for a mess: wear old clothes, tennis shoes, bring a towel (helps with clean up), hair binder. A snack is optional. See you soon!

  • Beginning Rosemaling

    The class is designed for rosemalers who have completed a beginning rosemaling course that covered painting the basic C and S strokes, as well as prepping and backgrounding woodenware. Exploration of the beautiful Norwegian folk art of rosemaling. Rosemalers will further develop their skills as they paint a wooden project. Prior to class, students will be provided the complete supply list of the paints, brushes, woodenware, and other supplies they will need to bring to class. The class will be taught in oils. Recommended for adults and ages 14+ with a parent or guardian.
  • Beginning Watercolor

    Watercolor is a relatively easy and inexpensive way to get started as a painter. Geared toward those with no or little prior experience, we'll be learning color theory (values, mixing), special effects you can achieve, and the basics of paints and brushes. Preprinted watercolor paper templates will be provided by the instructor.

    This course is designed for those who have little to no clay experience. Students will learn the basics of both hand building and wheel throwing and will have instructor support to complete student proposed projects. Students are expected to bring their own clay tools.

    Join the Sisterhood of Belly Dance! Dance to mysterious, ancient and modern rhythms. Learn fabulous and beautiful dance moves while toning and strengthening your body! We cover basic moves and more, combinations and zils. Finger cymbals are available for use. Choreography included. Bring a hip scarf and your smile! This class is level 1-2. No previous dance experience necessary. Prerequisite to Intermediate Class.
  • Big Machines with Kidcreate Studio

    Beep beep! Honk! Rumble rumble! Zoom! If your little one loves big machines, we’ve got the class for you. While exploring a variety of different art materials, artists will create a clay construction zone and design their own 3D rollercoaster; they’ll even create a rocket ship that really glows in the dark! This class is great for boys AND girls! Come and create right along with your child. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver.
  • Bike Tune Up!

    This 3hr class will build from basic to more advance. Many of your bike issues can be solved in this class! Major focus will be on identification of bicycle parts, trailside repair, shifting adjustments, brake adjustments, chain maintenance, how to repair/replace a tube (flat tire), how to safety check your bike. We will also learn basic wheel truing, replacing a chain, how to replace brake and shifting cables. Learn a skill and leave with a bike tuned up for less than the price of a shop tune up. Plus, you don't have to wait!

    Connect together with members of the community through sports! Project SOAR and Hopkins Adults are teaming up to host a number of open gyms where all abilities are welcome. These games will be focused on the social experience of sports and will be played as non competitive, leisurely games. An instructor will be on site to facilitate play of games. Registration is required to participate. Each month a different sport will be played (see below). September: Pickleball --- Participants will need to bring their own paddle. Nets and balls will be provided October: Badminton November: Basketball --- Please bring your own basketball

    Bob Ross taught a technique that shows anyone can paint. This class will show you step by step how to create a beautiful painting. The class is 4 hours long and all supplies are provided. At the end of the class, you leave with a beautiful 12x16 oil painting anyone will be proud to display on their wall. Open to anyone ages 7+ (with an accompanied adult).     Broadway is calling! We will learn about the amazing world of Broadway musicals and hone our jazz, tap and performance skills to prepare us for our future as musical theater stars. We will learn jazz and tap technique, skills and choreography and prepare our very own musical theater performance. Wear form fitting clothes, any style jazz and tap shoes and put long hair up in a secure ponytail, braid or bun. All levels welcome.
  • Bryant Lake Nature Walk with Roosevelt & Muir

    Strengthen your love of nature and your appreciation for it in literature in this open-aired discussion about conservationists Roosevelt & Muir with local author Jeff Olson. Jeff will lead a short nature walk at Bryant Lake Park which will rest at a park pavilion for a discussion of the great naturalist writers and facilitate making connections between these themes and the great state and national parks and wildlife refuges of the United States. You will be inspired to read more in your own new copy of Kindred Spirits: The Extraordinary Nature Conservation of Theodore Roosevelt and John Muir (Olsen, 2024). Build your community of fellow local nature lovers and satisfy your appetite after an exhilarating morning at lunch afterward. Note: Please dress comfortably for the weather. Please bring a notebook and a pen. The class will run except in dangerous inclement weather, e.g.: lightening, tornado, etc.). Note: The cost of lunch is not included in the course fee.

    Camp Invention is an exciting, weeklong summer adventure with lessons that explore connections between science, technology, engineering, and innovation. Children work together to seek solutions to real-world problems and sharpen critical 21st century learning skills while rotating through several fascinating modules. In the Camp Invention EXPLORE program, campers will dive into ocean research with their own robotic fish, develop inventions for space exploration, build a spinning robotic artist and design a mega marble arcade! Each activity is designed to inspire curiosity, stretch imaginations, and give your explorer an epic summer experience.
