  • Bake and Build Gingerbread House! Family Fun Bake-Along Class!

    Have some fun participating in this LIVE virtual Family Fun BAKE-ALONG class, as you BAKE & BUILD your own GINGERBREAD HOUSE together! Start a new holiday family tradition and create lifelong memories as you bring your family together to create a show-stopping edible work of art! Together, we will combine the wonderful flavors of gingerbread and use the dough to create the pieces that will be used to “build” breathtaking houses, and make the stiff Royal Icing that will hold everything together and be used as the “glue” to decorate your houses with candies and delicious treats. Participants will a list of ingredients at least a week in advance of the class to allow time for shopping and preparation. Participants will also receive a template that will need to be printed and cut out before class to be used as a “pattern” to cut out the gingerbread before it is baked. The Gingerbread recipe will also be provided in PDF Format. This class will take place on Zoom, a free on-line software. Participants will receive instructions on how to access the class prior to it starting. As an added bonus, the instructor has created a private group on Facebook for participants of her cooking classes. Everyone will receive an invite to the group although joining is optional. The group will provide an opportunity for members to ask questions, share their own creations, interact with other participants and support one another in your cooking journey! Come join the fun! Note: One registration fee for this on-line Virtual class can include participants from the same household only. If children are participating, adult supervision is required. Equipment needs: Large sheet pan, parchment paper / non-stick baking mat, rolling pin, and mixer will be needed. Other items will be listed in the handout you will receive at least a week before class.
  • Beginner Gymnastics

    Designed for children with little to no gymnastics experience, the goal of this class is to provide an introduction to basic skills on all of the apparatus, with a focus on balance, flexibility, coordination and body awareness. Students will learn basic tumbling skills (forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, handstands, etc.) and basics on bars, balance beam, and vault. Class is taught by Hopkins Varsity Gymnastics Coach Meghan Johnson and her staff. Please note that parents will be asked to wait in the common areas of the school until the last day when they will be invited into the gym. This is due to lack of space in the gym and avoiding distractions for our gymnasts.

    In this class we will learn measuring and other baking techniques that will help your baker learn where to start!
  • Beginning Crochet

    Students will learn to read a yarn label, sizes of yarn and hooks, see examples of crocheting, learn basic stitches, slip, chain, and single crochet, and get started on a potholder/hot plate. At the second class there will be time for individual help, how to finish up their projects and perhaps learn some new basic stitches, showing how you can build on crochet.
  • Birch Tree Resist Paintings

    Picture your favorite season. What do you see? Colorful leaves cascading from the trees, or buckets of snow falling from the dark sky. Learn how to paint the perfect woodland scene, featuring birch trees and accompanying leaves, using a few simple techniques and materials. Participants will be guided, step-by step, through the painting process, and will produce a beautiful piece that is sure to be the talk of your next Zoom gathering. Prior to being led through the birch tree painting process, participants will be introduced to some art terms and techniques related to this project. Friends and family will be impressed by everything you learn, and create in this one-time nature-themed art class! This class will take place over Zoom. Kits available for purchase for $10.00. If you do not purchase a kit, a supply list will be emailed to you.

    Try out Yoga-Sutra body meditations in a loving-kindness atmosphere. Discover how to relax, breathe, use safe focus points, and quiet your inner mental and emotional tapes. Learn from a college teacher with sixty years of experience—Eastern, Western, nonreligious, science friendly. Wear comfortable clothes; we’ll sit normally in chairs. This class will be offered online, via Zoom.

In this class, we’ll walk step-by-step through the budgeting process including setting up your budget, how to track your spending throughout the month and tips & tricks to save money on monthly expenses.   • Canine Health and Wellness: Nutrition, Enrichment & Building a Stronger Bond with your Dog

    Having a dog is different than it used to be. This course is ideal for those who are new to dog ownership or just want to learn the most current methods to promote longer life, better health, and more enrichment for their dog. INSTRUCTION OBJECTIVES: Attendees will learn how to cope with the “puppy blues,” whether pet insurance is worth the investment, understand how to choose a dog food and we will discuss fitness and enrichment ideas that go beyond the usual walk around the neighborhood.

    Come meet the lovable and personable llamas at Carlson's Farm! A farmworker will give the group a guided tour where you will learn all about these gentle and very special animals. Hands-on activities will include mingling with the llamas, taking the llamas on a trail walk, brushing and feeding treats (provided) to the llamas, visiting the gift shop, and more. All ages and abilities welcome! *All participants age 1+ will need to register *Transportation will not be provided. The farm tour will take place at Carlson's Lovable Llama Farm, located at: 8380 County Rd 10 E, Waconia, MN 55387 and will take place rain or shine.

  • Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Buttercream Frosting! (Bake-Along)

    Showstopper desserts are often the star-of-the-show, when it comes to holiday celebrations or any time of year. Bake-Along with the instructor in this class, and learn to create a showstopper dessert in the form of a delicious 3-Tiered Carrot Cake with a luscious velvety Cream-Cheese Buttercream Frosting that will have your family and friends talking for years to come. Get ready! You will be asked to make this dreamy goodness time and time again! We will be baking the cake, and making the frosting together. The Instructor will then demonstrate how to construct the layers and frost the cake. Participants will be able to do the same once their cake layers have cooled! Participants will receive a list of ingredients at least a week in advance of the class to allow time for shopping. Participants will also receive a copy of the instructors’ personal recipe for this class in a professionally made PDF. This class will take place on Zoom; a free on-line software. Participants will receive instructions on how to access the class prior to it starting. Make lasting memories with your children as you create a wonderful dessert together that will become a family favorite. Have your questions answered by the instructor, and interact with other participants as you bake-along. While baking-along is loads of fun, it is optional.   • Chair Yoga

    Chair yoga is a gentle practice that includes seated poses on the chair and standing poses using the chair for balance and support. Yoga can help manage arthritis and osteoporosis while strengthening your immune system. This class is ideal for those with limited mobility and strength, or who are healing from injuries. Participants will need access to Zoom and a straight back chair. This class will meet online via Zoom. Online meeting information will be sent via email by the instructor before the first class.
  • Chateaubriand

    We’ll start with delightful autumn salad tossed with crispy granny apples, candied walnuts, feta cheese and dried cranberries in a raspberry vinaigrette. Featuring “Chateaubriand” beef tenderloin seared, roasted and served with amazing sauces including bordelaise, béarnaise and pepper sauce. Accompaniments will include creamy potatoes au gratin, tomatoes provencal and fresh steamed asparagus tossed with olive oil and fresh squeezed lemon. We’ll finish with crème caramel, an exquisite homemade custard served in a pool of caramel.

  • Code Championship Tournament Series | Virtual Computer Coding Competition

    Build a computer bot to play head-to-head against other coders! Whether this is your first Code Championship event, or if you've been competing for years, this is the perfect way to explore the competitive coding world of Code Championship. No previous coding experience necessary. The Fall 2021 Code Championship Series is a series of six tournaments in six weeks (it's ok to miss one or two). These tournaments will be hosted online using Google Meet and the Code Championship website. If you have a modern browser like Chrome or Firefox, no additional download is required. Please come knowing how to navigate the internet (basic typing and mouse control). The link to the Google Meet event will be emailed two days before the tournament.
  • Community Education Scholarship Fund

    This past year has been challenging for all of us due to the pandemic and the hardships it has caused for our community. For Hopkins Community Education, programming came to a halt, and we were mandated to provide Tier One workers childcare at no cost to our families. We were honored to be there for our community in a time of critical need. As we recover, we recognize that Hopkins Public Schools families are also struggling. Families are experiencing job loss and struggling to make ends meet. To support Hopkins families we have set up a process for Hopkins Schools families to help each other. If you would like to make a donation to help families access high quality childcare through Hopkins Community Ed, please register or sign in HERE and select the denomination of your choice in the drop-down menu to the right. You will receive an email confirmation upon completion of the donation. Every child should have the opportunity to participate in enriching childcare programs.     A discussion of simple at-home tools and techniques to manage your dog’s fur whether it’s a long-haired breed that mats easily or a heavy shedder. INSTRUCTION OBJECTIVES: While not a substitute for professional grooming, attendees will learn what they should be doing for their dog at home in between visits to the professional groomer. Topic will cover bathing and brushing, and easy dental maintenance techniques.
