Introduction to Nordic Spoon Carving

Adult Summer 2025

Join us for a 3 hour introduction to the craft of greenwood spoon carving. You will finish the class with your own hand carved serving spoon. For the first part of class we will study safety, knife grips and traditional techniques for carving. For the rest of the class you will apply what you have learned to transform a spoon blank provided into your completed spoon.

Wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting full of wood chips and closed toed shoes. All tools and supples provided. No carving experience needed.

Erik Vevang


Erik has been spoon carving since 2013 and teaching greenwood spoon carving since 2016. Introduced to carving by his ex-wife Michele, Erik and Michele have taken numerous carving classes and workshops on their spoon carving journey. Since 2016 Erik has taught many carving classes, both advanced and introductory. As a carpenter, woodworker and graduate with a BA in Studio Art from St Olaf College in Northfield MN, spoon carving has been the perfect way for Erik to explore the intersection of art and craft. Erik currently hosts classes in spoon carving at the Audubon Park community center in Minneapolis, White Bear Center for the Arts in White Bear Lake MN, Duluth Folk School in Duluth, Land o’ Lakes Art Center Land o’ Lakes WI and at Norway House in Minneapolis.
