Girls Who Code Club

Youth Programs / Science & S.T.E.M. -
Youth Fall 2024

Join a sisterhood of supportive peers and role models using computer science to change the world!  Clubs offer fun activities through a flexible curriculum that adapts to student's unique needs. Students will explore coding in a fun & friendly environment.

3rd-5th Grade Clubs

Students will center their learning around computational thinking skills in a series of books as they develop bravery and confidence. This curriculum offers options for online lessons in Scratch and unplugged activities that do not require a computer to accompany the books.  Students can expect to learn the basics of coding and gain confidence through a book-club style program model and optional Scratch activities.

6th-12th Grade Clubs

Clubs serving young people in 6th-12th grade will need a computer and an internet connection to access the whole curriculum, including project-based, video-guided Learn to Code Activities in a variety of coding languages, like Scratch, JavaScript, Python, and Swift.

6th-12th grade Club members can expect to:

  • Learn the basics of coding and gain confidence through a book-club style program model and optional Scratch activities.
  • Complete self-guided tutorials at all skill levels in Scratch, p5.js, Swift, and Python.
  • Participate in GWC Challenges where Club members explore real-world applications of technology, offering a powerful way to drive Club engagement and ignite curiosity.
  • Gain confidence and resilience as they learn about inspiring role models from diverse STEM careers.

Volunteers Needed! Clubs cannot run without a volunteer facilitator.  Contact Jen at jennifer.pierce@hopkinsschools.org to volunteer or sign up to volunteer when registering your student.
