Starting SoonColorful Glass Mosaic Sign or Mug Planter - IN PERSONArtCreate a unique mini planter or pen cup using a coffee mug, or a colorful sign with cut glass. The planter perfect for your desk or to grow herbs in your kitchen. Sign ideas include welcome, your house number, the state of MN. The glass is precut and stencils are available. The first night we will design and glue the glass to the project, the second night we will grout the finished project and learn about mosaics. Open Pottery Studio - IN PERSONArtIf you are taking a pottery class through Hopkins Community Education or have taken a pottery class through Hopkins Community Education, join us at Open Pottery Studio to work on a personal project or continue to work on your class projects. Hopkins Community Education pottery instructors supervise the open studio time, however, no instruction is provided. Open Pottery Studio fee does not include clay. Use the clay from your class or purchase additional clay from instructor. These sessions are open to current Hopkins Community Education pottery students and past Hopkins Community Education Pottery Students. In order to accommodate COVID-19 mitigation guidelines, only 4 students may use a wheel at one time. We have divided the sections accordingly; please register for the appropriate section based on your preference to use the wheel only or to handbuild only. Start your clay-learning process by mastering various hand-building methods and get an introduction to the potter's wheel. Experience a wide-variety of techniques and receive lots of individual instruction as you create projects you choose. If you've always wanted to learn and experiment with pottery, this is the class for you! Students MUST be able to attend the first three sessions. Class fee includes 25 lbs. of clay, glazes, and firing fee. Additional clay can be purchased from instructor. If you don't have the basic tools, rent them in class for $3. Seed Mosaics: A Great Minnesotan TraditionArtEvery year the Minnesota State Fair showcases seed mosaics created by artists all over the state. In our seed mosaic workshop, students will continue this great tradition by creating their own works of seed art. Students will learn about the history and techniques of mosaic art and create a design of their own! Once completed, students will share their designs with classmates and share this Minnesotan art form with their families. Textiles Lab & Community ProjectArtFrom Covid masks, Gee's Bend Quilts, and the AIDS Quilt, textiles have played an important role in community-making. In this Open Lab online class, stitch anything from fuzzy slippers, knit hats, practice yarn bombing, or make giant soft sculptures in this social sewing-hour.
