Elementary Enrichment is for school age children in grades K- 5 in the evening and weekend hours. To provide opportunities where discovery, play, connections, and activities can happen year round.

HISTORIC ANDREW PETERSON HOMESTEAD IN WACONIA
NOTES:
1. There is a reasonable amount of walking and standing as you visit the buildings on site. The lawn could be uneven - wear appropriate footwear.
2. Motor coach transportation and the lunch are included in the price of this tour. Please contact Hopkins Community Education for any dietary or accessibility requests.

8:55-9:10 a.m. Meet at the Eisenhower Community Center Welcome Center where your host will meet you for check-in.
9:15 a.m. Leave from the Eisenhower Community Center, 1001 Hwy. 7, Hopkins, MN
9:45 a.m. Arrive at The Andrew Peterson Farm near Waconia, MN.
10:00 a.m. Take a docent-led tour of The Peterson Farmstead. The site is owned and operated by the Carver County Historical Society. Andrew Peterson emigrated from Sweden and arrived in Minnesota in 1855, claiming 160 acres near Lake Waconia.
The journal Peterson kept from the time he left Sweden until the day before he died was discovered by author Vilhelm Moberg. Moberg used them as a primary source for his Emigrants book series. This tour provides insight into the lives of 19th century Swedish immigrants.
11:15 a.m. Leave The Peterson Farm .
11:30 a.m. Visit the Carver County Historical Society with five history galleries and a veterans’ exhibit. The local history galleries are primarily thematic and tell the story of our county's heritage. The objects on display are used to help tell these stories. Exhibits or parts of exhibits change regularly.
12:30 p.m. Leave the History Museum.
12:45 p.m. Arrive at the Island View Golf Course. See the historic Scandia Baptist Cemetery where Andrew Peterson is buried. It is located along the driveway surrounded by the golf course.
1:00 p.m. Have lunch in the Club House. Menu: Soup and Sandwich Special with Coffee, Tea, Soda and a Small Dessert.
2:15 p.m. Leave Waconia.
2:30 p.m. Arrive at Cathy Mackenthun’s Meats and Deli in St. Bonifacius to shop. They have continued a lovely tradition for over four generations; providing customers with handmade smoked meats, sausages, jerky, apple wood smoked bacon and ham, brats, meat pies, braunschweiger and many other outstanding products to purchase.
3:00 p.m. Leave St. Bonifacius.
3:30 p.m. Estimated return time to Hopkins.
