Cane Dance Intensive: Mastering the Art of Raqs Assaya

Dive into the energetic and playful world of cane dance in this immersive three-hour intensive! This workshop will introduce you to the fundamentals of Raqs Assaya, a traditional style of belly dance that incorporates the use of a cane as both a prop and an extension of movement. Learn essential techniques, spins, flips, and signature styling to create powerful and fluid combinations. Whether you're new to cane work or looking to refine your skills, this class will provide drills, choreography insights, and performance tips to help you build confidence and command the stage. No prior cane experience required—just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to explore!

Instructors

Erin Hunter

Erin is a seasoned performer having been on the stage since kindergarten. She has performed as a dancer at World Arab Fest, on network TV, as a house dancer in local restaurants and countless celebrations and theater shows. She created Caravan Dance and Music in 2011 which performed on the Robin Hood stage at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival and throughout the Midwest until 2013. She has taught multiple classes in the Twin Cities and produced stage shows for students to showcase their skills. In addition to belly dance, Erin is an actress and model appearing in commercials for Target, Lifetime Fitness, Hasbro and local Twin Cities films.


Kristin Kujawski

Kristin is a multi-talented artist, dancer, performer, teacher and choreographer of 30 plus years. Bringing life to emotions and stories through movement has been a lifelong pursuit. She has studied with many great Middle Eastern Dance Artists including Cassandra Shore, Jillina, Dina of Cairo, and Raqia Hassan. Her movement studies also include African, Modern Dance, Ballet, Jazz, Renaissance, Baroque dance forms and extensive experience in Stage Combat and Theatrical Movement. No story is too big or small to tell through dance.
