Altered Book Art Journaling

Adult / Art -
Adult Summer 2026

Sketchbooks and journals are great for art journaling, but the blank white page can also be intimidating. Vintage books, novels, cookbooks and children’s books can also be used for art journaling and provide a variety of paper options, inspiring graphics and illustrations, and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. We’ll begin by discussing how to choose a book to use and where to find old books, then we’ll learn some simple ways to fill the pages with our own artwork, make the pages interactive and ways to use this as a daily practice.

Please bring an old book to alter to class and any supplies or ephemera you’d like to use. Shared supplies will be available for use in class.

Molly Anthony

Molly Anthony is a writer and mixed-media artist from Minneapolis, MN. She loves exploring art in all forms and sharing her ideas with others, but through the pandemic and family struggles she learned the importance of using those practices for self-care. In her work and her teachings, she strives to embrace imperfection, focuses on process over product and is constantly looking for new ways to be curious about the world around her, especially while on walks with her dog. She teaches locally in the Twin Cities and is also the co-facilitator for the MN Visual Journal Collective. You can find her artwork on Instagram at @mkranthony and on her website TheFoundArtWalk.com.
