Beginning Sewing

Youth Programs / Art, Drama and Dance -
Youth Winter/Spring 2024

This is for those who have little or no experience at a sewing machine. We begin with learning the parts of the sewing machine and then practice sewing straight and curved lines. We will learn about choosing fabric and patterns. In Session 1 we will make a pillow case. Students will be required to provide fabric and a designated pattern for Session 2. In Session 2, we will learn about using patterns and will cut out the fabric and construct a pair of leisure pants. Students are then on their way to sewing fashions and accessories of their own creation.

Pat Swanson

Pat Swanson is a long-time member of America Sewing Guild, currently the Youth Education Coordinator for the Minneapolis St Paul chapter. She has been sewing since she was a child (more than 50 years), and recently retired her home sewing & alterations business. Sewing is one of her outlets for creativity, and she appreciates the opportunity to pass on this passion to others.
